Kenya Met Announces Counties in 4 Regions to Receive Heavy Rainfall on Labour Day

Kenyans in several places will celebrate Labour Day on Friday, May 1, by receiving heavy rainfall, according to the update by the Kenya Meteorological Department. Kenya Met announces counties to receive heavy rainfall on Labour Day.  In a notice, Kenya Met said several places in the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Northwestern and the Northeastern region will receive increased rainfall intensity from 9 pm on Thursday, April 30, to 9 pm on Friday, May 1. “Rainfall is expected over several parts of the country with enhanced intensity over the Highlands west and east of the Rift Valley and the northwestern and northeastern regions. Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Northwestern, Northeastern, Southeastern Lowlands and Coastal counties,” Kenya Met predicted.

Tonight, showers and thunderstorms are expected over several places within the following counties: Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Siaya, Homabay, Kericho, Nandi, Bomet, Nakuru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Trans-Nzoia, and Narok. In the morning, rains are expected over a few places, followed by showers and thunderstorms over several places in the afternoon. Highlands East fo Rift Valley These counties include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi counties Kenya Met forecasts showers and thunderstorms in a few areas tonight, with morning rain in some locations, followed by widespread afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Northwestern Turkana and Samburu counties: Showers and thunderstorms are expected in a few places tonight and this afternoon. Rains are expected in a few places tomorrow morning. Strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5m/s) are expected over parts of Turkana County.

Northeastern

Tonight, showers are expected in a few places in Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, and Isiolo counties. In the morning, rains are expected in a few places. Showers and thunderstorms are expected in a few places in the afternoon. Strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5m/s) are expected over parts of Marsabit, Garissa, and Isiolo counties.

Southeastern lowlands

Tonight, showers and thunderstorms are expected in a few locations across Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado counties. In the morning, rains are expected, transitioning to sunny intervals. Showers and thunderstorms are expected again in the afternoon in a few locations. Strong southerly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5m/s) are anticipated over parts of Makueni, Kitui, and Taita Taveta counties.

Coast

Tonight, morning, and afternoon showers are expected in a few places in Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River counties. Strong southerly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5m/s) are expected over parts of Kwale, Mombasa, and Tana River counties.
