Baringo: 5-year-old girl’s body retrieved from a river

The body of a five-year-old girl has been recovered from a river in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County.

The child, a pupil at Kamelilo ECD and a resident of Kap-Gidion area, had been reported missing at around 2:00 PM on Tuesday.

Witnesses said she was attempting to cross the swollen River Tilatil while heading home from school.

Her body was later found in the fast-moving waters as heavy rains continue to pound the county.

Eldama Ravine Assistant County Commissioner David Cheruiyot urged parents to remain vigilant, stressing the need to escort children to and from school to prevent such incidents.

Police processed the scene and moved the body to the Eldama Ravine Sub-County Referral Hospital mortuary.

Cheruiyot also warned that River Tilatil remains dangerously swollen due to the ongoing rains.
