Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) has been named among Africa’s Top 25 Energy Companies by Pan African Voice, recognising its role in powering Kenya’s economy and advancing the continent’s clean energy transition.
The recognition highlights KenGen’s renewable energy leadership and growing contribution to Africa’s energy development.
More than 90% of the company’s installed generation capacity comes from geothermal, hydro and wind resources, providing a strong foundation for energy security, industrial growth and long-term competitiveness.
Pan African Voice’s 2026 ranking assessed companies against five criteria: scale, market position, strategic importance, momentum and continental reach.
Its inclusion of KenGen underscores the significance of renewable electricity generation in an African energy landscape that spans oil, gas, utilities and off-grid solutions.
Welcoming the recognition, KenGen Managing Director and CEO, Eng. Peter Njenga, said the company’s experience demonstrated the economic value of sustained investment in clean energy across Africa.
“This recognition reflects the dedication of our people, the confidence of our stakeholders and the strength of our long-term investment in renewable energy. Our experience, particularly in geothermal development, demonstrates that clean energy can strengthen energy security, support industry and deliver lasting economic and environmental benefits,” said Eng. Njenga.
“Under our G2G 2034 corporate strategy, we are focused on expanding renewable generation, modernising our assets and advancing technologies and partnerships that unlock greater value for Kenya and the wider continent,” he added.
KenGen is building on that foundation to extend its impact beyond electricity generation.
Through its geothermal expertise and energy development services, the company is supporting other African countries seeking to develop their own resources and strengthen domestic technical capacity.
At home, initiatives such as the Olkaria Green Energy Park aim to connect renewable power with industrial investment, positioning Kenya’s clean energy resources as a competitive advantage for businesses and a catalyst for economic growth.
That focus on translating clean energy leadership into investment and opportunity will also shape KenGen’s upcoming third Sustainable Energy Conference (SEC 2026), scheduled for November 24 – 27, 2026, a t the Olkaria Geothermal Spa.
The conference is expected to bring together more than 1,500 participants from across Africa and beyond, offering direct access to investors, policymakers and leaders shaping the future of renewable energy and sustainability.
Participants will have the opportunity to showcase solutions, explore investment opportunities and build strategic partnerships that turn clean energy ambitions into bankable projects and lasting business growth.
