Veteran broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka was left visibly emotional when his wife, Sophie, took the microphone during a live television appearance and spoke openly about her love for him.
Standing in front of the cameras, she did not hold back, and the studio audience listened as the couple shared a tender moment few expected to see on air.
The scene was set on stage, with colourful lighting and a clearly festive mood. Sophie spoke without hesitation, telling her husband what he means to her as the audience looked on.
“You are my everything. I thank God in heaven every day for you, kwa sababu wewe ni mume wa jibu, sahibu na yote mazuri. Hata sijui nilipatia Mungu nini ili kunipenda hivi akanipa mume kama huyu. Nashukuru Mungu. I love you, sweetheart,” she said, her voice warm and steady.
Machoka appeared at a loss for what to do with himself. He slipped his hands in and out of his pockets and blushed as the cameras rolled. At one point, he placed an arm around his wife’s shoulders

“I love you too,” he replied, visibly emotional, as the room took in the moment.
Fifty years in broadcasting
The tribute was tied to Machoka’s upcoming milestone celebration on 10 October 2026, which will mark half a century in broadcasting.
He is a household name in Kenyan media and one of the most recognizable voices the industry has produced. The event is expected to be a major celebration of his legacy.
Sophie’s words came across as unplanned and sincere. Viewers watching the show responded warmly and cheered as Machoka stood beside her, visibly moved.
