Home player Cyprian Bundi attributed his maiden Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Series title at Nanyuki Sports Club to patience and focus.
Bundi made amends for last year’s runners-up finish at the NCBA Nanyuki Open on Sunday, going one better this time to claim the title on home turf.
“I trusted my game throughout the three rounds, stayed patient and focused on taking one shot at a time. I am very grateful for the support and proud to finally have the NCBA Nanyuki Open title,” said Bundi.
“It feels incredible to finally get the win. Last year I came close and finished second, so coming back this year and being able to go all the way means a lot to me,” he added.
Bundi held his nerve throughout the three-day tournament, carding a one-under-par 215 to lead from start to finish and claim the Nanyuki title.
He opened with a two-under-par 70 in the first round before carding a one-over-par 73 in the second round to remain atop the leaderboard heading into the final round. On Sunday, he shot an even-par 72 to finish with a three-round total of 215.
Seasoned amateur Elvis Muigua finished second on one-over-par 217 after rounds of 72, 74 and 71, while John Kamais was third on two-over-par 218 following rounds of 73, 74 and 71.
William Odek and Daniel Mwangi, both on three-over-par, tied for fourth, while Diani Beach Masters winner Alex Mwangi finished sixth on four-over-par.
Peter Macharia and Kamoza Chege shared seventh place on five-over-par, while Josphat Rono and Rafael Leming’ani tied for 10th on six-over-par to complete the top 10.
Kenya Golf Union Vice Chairman Jonathan Marucha congratulated Bundi on his breakthrough victory and commended the players for an exciting weekend of golf.
“Congratulations to Cyprian Bundi on a very well-earned maiden victory. To lead from the opening round and maintain that position through to the final day speaks to the quality and consistency of his performance,” said Marucha.
“We are delighted with the level of competition witnessed at Nanyuki Sports Club and grateful to all the players, officials, partners and fans who contributed to a successful championship. The NCBA Nanyuki Open continues to provide an important platform for our amateur golfers to challenge themselves and grow their game,” he added.
Jay Sandhu continues to lead the 2026 KAGC standings with 1,535 points, followed by John Kamais on 1,125. Muigua is third with 989 points, while Adel Taufiq Balala is fourth on 814. Rono completes the top five with 695.16 points.
Elsewhere, Shay Chauhan and Samara Teneva were the standout performers as the NCBA U.S. Kids Mombasa Local Fall Tour teed off at Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort on Sunday.
The opening leg attracted 60 junior golfers, comprising 22 girls and 38 boys.
Chauhan carded a seven-over-par 79 in the Boys 15-18 category to finish ahead of Aryan Awe Joseph, who posted 18-over-par, while David Kaguru was third on 24-over-par.
Teneva, meanwhile, carded nine-over-par 45 in the Girls 9-10 category to finish ahead of Avian Klee (+12) and Natalie Amor (+18), who placed second and third, respectively.
Action moves to Nyali Golf & Country Club on October 4, for the second leg of the six-event tour.
