Property worth millions of shillings has been destroyed in a fire that broke out in a dormitory at Hill School in Eldoret City.
There were no injuries reported after the fire broke out at about 5 am. A quick response by the Uasin Gishu County fire team and the Kenya Red Cross helped contain the situation.
The affected dormitory accommodated approximately 340 Form Three and Form Four students.
All the students were attending their morning preps in classrooms when the fire broke out, and no injuries have been reported.
The learners, however, lost most of their school property.
A team of senior security officers led by County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani visited the school and is investigating the incident.
The cause of the fire has not been established. The school has both primary and secondary sections.
The response is being led by the Red Cross Head of Region (HOR), Oscar Okumu, together with the County Coordinator (CC), Uasin Gishu, in coordination with the police, fire brigade and community members.
The Kenya Red Cross Society is providing psychosocial support (PSS) to affected students and conducting a rapid needs assessment to establish the extent of the damage, immediate needs and appropriate response actions.
