Dry conditions are expected to persist across most parts of Kenya over the weekend, although scattered showers have been forecast in 14 counties.
The Kenya Meteorological Service said most parts of the country would be predominantly dry between Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, 2026.
However, rainfall is expected in parts of Western, Central and Coast regions.
“Rainfall is expected in some parts of Kericho, Kakamega, Vihiga, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Murang’a, Meru, Embu, Mombasa, Lamu, Kilifi and Kwale counties,” Kenya Met stated.
The forecast indicates that the rainfall will not be widespread, with most areas within the affected counties also expected to experience generally sunny conditions.
Across the coastal region, the Meteorological Service forecast partly cloudy conditions at night, with light showers possible in a few places.
“The rest of the day will see sunny intervals, with showers in a few places,” the forecast stated.
The coastal counties covered by the outlook are Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu and Tana River.
In Nairobi, partly cloudy conditions are expected at night, while some areas could experience cloudy conditions in the morning accompanied by a few showers.
The capital is, however, expected to become generally sunny as the day progresses.
Similar conditions are expected across much of the country, with partly cloudy skies forecast at night and light showers possible in a few places.
The weather is expected to become sunnier during the morning and afternoon in most areas.
In the Central region, Kenya Met has forecast possible light rains in a few places during the morning in Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Nyeri and Kiambu counties.
The Rift Valley region could also experience light showers and thunderstorms in several counties, although most places are expected to remain dry.
The counties listed under this forecast include Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Nakuru and West Pokot.
Besides the rainfall forecast, the Service warned of strong southerly to southeasterly winds in parts of northern and eastern Kenya.
“Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots expected over parts of Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui Counties,” the forecast stated.
The wind conditions are expected to affect several counties, particularly in the northern and eastern parts of the country, even as most of Kenya experiences generally dry weather.
The forecast therefore points to a largely dry weekend, with isolated rainfall concentrated in parts of Western, Central, Rift Valley and coastal areas.
Residents in areas expected to receive showers have been advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions, particularly where thunderstorms are forecast.
