President William Ruto, who will lead the national celebrations, is expected to commission the projects, including completed affordable housing units.
Construction works at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium are now in 24-hour mode. The facility will be the venue of the celebrations to be co-hosted by Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties on October 20.
The stadium is over 60 per cent done and it’s expected to be complete by mid October.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii said all preparations are in top gear, with various teams put in place to handle key aspects of hosting the event that is expected to bring thousands of visitors to the region.
“It’s a great honour for us to be given the chance to host such an event, and we are working hard to ensure everything is in place by that time,” Bii said.
Contractors are working round the clock to ensure completion of several projects in the three counties, including markets, roads, affordable housing units and health facilities.
The projects will be commissioned during a weeklong tour of the region by President Ruto. The tour will culminate in leading the national celebrations.
The Uasin Gishu county health department has declared its readiness to support the successful hosting of the Mashujaa Day celebrations in the city.
The department carried out a preparedness assessment meeting that brought together members of the county health committee.
The meeting, chaired by Director of Medical Services Evans Kiprotich, assessed the county’s level of preparedness and coordination of health services ahead of the highly national fete.
The engagement also involved representatives from private health facilities, with discussions focusing on strengthening collaboration and ensuring adequate preparations to respond to any health emergencies that may arise.
Kiprotich said they will ensure all necessary measures are in place and that health teams across the county are ready to deliver efficient, timely and well-coordinated services throughout the event.
“We are ready for the day, and we have set up all necessary teams that will coordinate matters health during the event,” he said.
The committee reviewed key areas of coordination, emergency preparedness and response, with stakeholders committing to work together to safeguard the health and safety of residents, visitors and all participants.
Governor Bii and his counterparts Wesley Rotich (Elgeyo Marakwet) and Stephen Sang of Nandi are expected to carry out joint inspections of the preparations ahead of the event.
