East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga has revealed plans to document her life alongside her late father, veteran Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga, through a six-part docuseries and a political memoir.
Speaking on Saturday, 29 August 2026, during an interview on Edmund Obilo’s YouTube channel, the politician outlined her vision to package her father’s legacy for a younger demographic.
Streaming Ambitions for Legacy
Winnie framed the prospective streaming project as a personal goal rather than an active commercial deal, expressing a desire to reach modern digital audiences.
“What I’d love to do more, really, is a documentary series. A short series, six episodes, something on Netflix, so that a lot of younger people can consume the story of it.”
Raila Odinga died in October 2025 following a political career spanning over three decades. He served as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 and mounted five presidential bids across his lifetime.
Rare Audio Archives Revealed
The proposed production relies on private audio recorded over several years. Winnie disclosed that she systematically captured candid conversations with her father, building a collection of primary material.

Election-Focused Memoir
Alongside screen development, Winnie announced a separate publishing project. She intends to write a memoir focused on the critical moments of her father’s campaigns.
“I will write a memoir on life with my father, maybe around certain elections.”
However, Winnie framed the Netflix documentary as an aspiration rather than a confirmed production, meaning there is currently no indication that the streaming platform has commissioned the project.
Her remarks suggest that the proposed documentary and memoir would combine personal family experiences with some of the country’s defining political moments.
