UDA announces changes to party constitution

United Democratic Alliance has announced amendments to its party constitution and invited members to submit their views on the changes.

In a notice issued pursuant to Section 20(2) of the Political Parties Act, 2011, secretary general Hassan Omar said a copy of the amended constitution is available on its official website.

The party has invited members with written submissions concerning the amendments to send their feedback through its official email address.

“A copy of the amended constitution is available at the official Party website https://uda.ke. Any member with written submissions concerning the amendment to the constitution is invited to make their written submissions to the party using its official email hello@uda.ke,” Omar said.

The amendments come as political parties continue reviewing their internal governance frameworks ahead of next year’s general election.

UDA said the party is founded on the principles of good governance, including equity, diversity, love, unity, freedom, justice, accountability, transparency and peace.”The leadership of the party shall ensure a just and prosperous nation through good governance, nurturing the right political atmosphere for businesses and industries to thrive, developing human resources, fostering political stability and welfare of the people of Kenya,” the party stated on its website.

The party symbol is a wheelbarrow, symbolising “the value, dignity and respect of work in pursuit of an equitable society”. The party colours are yellow, black, green in white background.

UDA is Kenya’s ruling political party and the largest party in the governing Kenya Kwanza coalition. The party is led by President William Ruto and uses the slogan “Kazi ni Kazi” and the wheelbarrow as its symbol, representing the dignity and value of work.

Originally known as the Party of Development and Reforms (PDR), the party officially rebranded to the United Democratic Alliance in December 2020 before rising to national prominence ahead of the 2022 general election.

UDA sponsored Ruto’s successful presidential bid after he left the Jubilee Party and formed the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

Following the 2022 elections, UDA emerged as the dominant party in Parliament, securing the largest number of seats in both the National Assembly and the Senate, cementing its position as the country’s ruling party.
