Ebola response received less than 10% of pledges, Africa CDC says

Less than 10% of pledges made to support the fight against ‌Ebola in Congo and Uganda have been received from donors, Africa’s top health body said on Thursday.

Donors have pledged $910 million, including $80 million from African Union member states, according to the latest data from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

Africa CDC official Wessam Mankoula told a media briefing that less than $90 million had been released for the affected countries.

“Some of those pledges just came recently, two days ‌ago, following the engagement with different countries either from the continent or outside of the continent,” Mankoula said.

“We’ll keep following up with different member states and different partners about their commitment to turn those pledges into actual money,” he added.

Africa CDC’s data showed that Ebola cases in both Congo and Uganda rose to slightly below 900.
