How to help teens navigate feelings around body change

Body image is about how we see ourselves and feel about our bodies, and how we think others see us.

Parents can help teens navigate body changes with patience and reassurance that the changes are normal.

Open conversations about body changes and body image encourage understanding and reduce anxiety. Avoid comparisons and criticism, and respect privacy while checking in regularly.

Model healthy habits like enough sleep and balanced routines. Encourage teens to focus on what they like about themselves and build confidence. Discuss media influences openly and explain that much of what is seen online is not natural.

Help them follow social media accounts that celebrate diversity and positive body image. Consistency and support make a big difference over time.
