Rapper Offset hospitalised after Florida casino shooting

Rapper Offset is recovering in hospital after being shot outside a casino in Florida, in an incident that has once again raised concerns over gun violence targeting high-profile figures in the entertainment industry.

A spokesperson confirmed that the rapper is in stable condition and under close medical supervision.

“We can confirm Offset was shot and is currently at the hospital receiving medical care,” the spokesperson said in a statement to XXL. “He is stable and being closely monitored.”

According to reports by The Guardian and the Los Angeles Times, the shooting occurred on Monday at the valet area of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Authorities confirmed that the scene was quickly secured, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack are ongoing.

Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

Law enforcement officials from the Seminole Police Department said two individuals were detained shortly after the incident. However, details regarding their involvement or possible motives have not yet been made public.

Police maintained that there is no ongoing threat to the public and that normal operations at the casino have resumed.

“The site is secure and there is no threat to the public,” police said in a statement, adding that investigations are still underway.

While the exact sequence of events leading to the shooting remains unclear, the incident has sparked renewed attention on the safety of artists, particularly in public spaces where they are easily accessible to fans and potential threats.

Offset rose to fame as a member of the hip-hop trio Migos, alongside Quavo and Takeoff. The group became known for its distinctive rapid-fire “triplet flow” style and produced several chart-topping hits that helped shape modern hip-hop.

The shooting also comes against the backdrop of previous violence involving members of the group. In 2022, Takeoff was shot and killed outside a bowling alley in Houston, an incident that shocked fans worldwide and underscored the risks faced by artists even in seemingly routine social settings.

Offset has since continued his solo career while maintaining a high public profile. He was previously married to fellow rapper Cardi B, with whom he shares children. Their relationship has frequently drawn media attention, further amplifying public interest in developments involving the artist.

As investigations continue, authorities have yet to release further details about the motive behind the shooting or whether Offset was specifically targeted. The detention of two individuals marks a significant development, but police have indicated that more information will be shared once enquiries progress.

For now, fans and industry peers have taken to social media to express concern and support for the rapper’s recovery, as he remains under medical observation following the shooting.
