What did Super Metro say about Joseph Mureithi’s death? According to eyewitnesses, the deceased, a petrol attendant at a station in Athi River, arrived at the stage just a few metres from Shalom Hospital and boarded a Super Metro bus at around 11pm when the incident occurred. They claimed Mureithi was thrown out after a confrontation on the bus. The Super Metro acknowledged the reports involving the vehicle with registration number KDK 060H, stating that the incident shocked the entire management. “Our vehicle KDK 060H en route from Kitengela to Nairobi CBD with 32 passengers on board was stopped by an irate mob of boda boda riders claiming that the conductor had pushed a passenger from the bus.
This came as a surprise to all on board,” the company stated. The company regretted the loss of a life and assured the public of their cooperation with the police and the National Transport and Safety Authority as they conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident. “According to preliminary information, the incident resulted in a fatality. As a company we are deeply saddened by the reported loss of life, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those who are affected,” Super Metro stated, adding that the safety of their passengers, employees, and communities is their major concern. Why is Super Metro conducting internal reviews? The Matatu Sacco urged anyone with relevant information on this matter to contact the law enforcement agency. The management confirmed that it would conduct an internal review to determine if company policies or procedures were implicated. “We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and the safety of everyone who interacts with our services,” the statement added. The vehicle was taken to Athi River Police Station while the driver and the conductor were arrested.
Meanwhile, Mureithi had just secured a job to help settle his ailing mother’s hospital bills, pay for his rent, and support his younger brother. His family demanded justice and a swift investigation into the incident. Did Super Metro kill boda rider? Meanwhile, this is not the first time that the company has been in the spotlight.
