A burial ceremony in Makindu subcounty was thrown into disarray after a swarm of bees mysteriously invaded the occasion and attacked mourners.
The ceremony was disrupted for at least three hours after attendees fled the scene for their own safety, leaving behind the casket.
At least ten mourners sought treatment at various health facilities in Makindu town, Kibwezi West subcounty, after being stung. The incident sparked fears and speculation of sorcery, as there were no beehives within the homestead’s vicinity.
The Tuesday incident at Kasemeini village disrupted the burial of boda boda rider Kyalo Kasyoki, as relatives and friends had gathered for a solemn send-off before bees caused mayhem.
“The funeral was suspended for several hours before proceeding later into the evening, with only a few mourners in attendance, since many had left the venue altogether after the incident,” said Reverend Dominic Mutuku of the Redeemed Gospel Church at Kwa Kyai market.
