Content creator Chief GodLove Billionaire has reacted to Nairobi’s high cost of living after revealing that he spent KSh 600,000 on what he described as basic shopping during a recent visit to the city.
Speaking in a video shared on his social media platforms, the Tanzania-based creator said the amount was spent mainly on foodstuffs and personal essentials, including sunscreen.
He compared the expenses to Dar es Salaam, noting a sharp contrast in prices between the two cities.
According to Chief GodLove Billionaire, the shopping was not extravagant and did not include luxury items. He said the experience highlighted how costly everyday living in Nairobi has become, even for visitors who are only in the city for a short period.
“This is just food and basic items,” he said, adding that the total came as a surprise given the nature of the purchases.
The content creator noted that similar shopping in Dar es Salaam would cost significantly less. He said the price difference reflects broader economic pressures in Nairobi, where residents and visitors alike continue to grapple with rising costs.
Despite the high expenses, Chief GodLove was keen to acknowledge Nairobi’s status and reputation. He said that being in Kenya, particularly in the capital, comes with a sense of respect and recognition.
“Being in Nairobi is respected and saluted,” he added, describing the city as influential and highly regarded across the region.
His comments have sparked discussion online, with social media users weighing in on the cost of living in Kenya’s capital.
Some agreed with his assessment, sharing their own experiences of expensive food prices and household goods, while others argued that costs vary depending on lifestyle and shopping locations.
Nairobi has in recent years been ranked among the most expensive cities in Africa, driven by high food prices, housing costs, and imported goods. Inflation, fuel prices, and a weak shilling have also contributed to increased consumer expenses.
Chief GodLove’s remarks come at a time when the cost of living remains a major public concern in Kenya. His comparison with Dar es Salaam has added to the ongoing regional conversation about affordability, urban living, and the economic pressures facing major cities in East Africa.
