Boniface Kariuki laid to rest in Murang’a

Boniface Kariuki, the 22 year-old mask vendor who was shot in the head by a police officer during protests in Nairobi’s CBD on June 17th, 2025, has been laid to rest today (Friday), in Kangema, Murang’a County.

Leaders who graced the occasion among them Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka condemned police use of firearms during peaceful protests, calling for justice for Boniface and many others who died in the hands of the police.

They also criticised the Goverment’s orders on shoot-to-maim protesters targeting businesses, saying this will prompt more killings.

The burial comes a day after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) approved murder charges against Police Constable Klinzy Masinde Barasa over the fatal shooting.
