Musingu and Kakamega schools ordered to replay match after document falsification

The Ministry of Education, through the County Director of Education in Kakamega, has issued a formal verdict in an appeal case involving Musingu Boys High School and Kakamega High School over the recently held County Boys Soccer Championship.

In a letter dated July 4, 2025, addressed to the principals of both schools, County Director of Education Hellen Nyang’au confirmed that both Musingu and Kakamega soccer teams were found guilty of violating the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Constitution, Article 14(e).

The violations involved the use of unauthentic documents during the competition.“Using documents that are not authentic (falsification of documents), Musingu School loses the County Championship and Kakamega loses position 3,” the letter stated.

According to the ministry, the initial placement of Kakamega High School in third position was as a result of Musingu’s absence from a scheduled playoff match. This gave Kakamega the advantage by default.

However, following further investigations and appeals, it has been ordered that a replay be conducted.

“During the County Boys Soccer play-offs, one of the teams did not turn up for the match, hence Kakamega assumed position 3,” the Director clarified.

In light of the ruling, both schools have been granted an opportunity to present eligible (bona fide) students for a replay match to determine positions 2 and 3. The match has now been scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 10 a.m. However, the venue is yet to be communicated.“No fans” will be allowed to attend the match, the directive noted, and both schools will be required to share the associated costs.

The County Director has also emphasized that all participating students must be authentic and verifiable, in line with KSSSA guidelines.
