‘President Ruto will be re-elected very easily in 2027’ – says Governor Lusaka

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has said that unseating President William Ruto in the 2027 general election will be an uphill task, if not impossible.

Speaking at Chebukwa Catholic Church on Sunday June 8, 2025, Lusaka observed that the heightened political temperature being witnessed across the country is typical of an election season where an incumbent seeks re-election.

“After all is said and done, President Ruto will still emerge victorious despite the opposition he is facing,” said Lusaka.

Lusaka drew parallels with past elections, citing the cases of former Presidents Mwai Kibaki in 2007 and Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013. Both faced stiff opposition but managed to secure second terms.

“Kibaki performed well during his first term, yet faced intense resistance from the opposition—but he still won. If Ruto could defeat a combined force of Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, I don’t see him losing in the coming elections,” Lusaka said.

The governor further opined that under the current political landscape, Raila Odinga remains the only politician with the strength to mount a credible challenge against President Ruto.

However, he noted that with Raila and Ruto now working together under a broad-based government, the outcome of the next poll already appears to be a foregone conclusion.

Lusaka also urged political leaders to embrace mature, issue-based politics and shun divisive rhetoric.

“We must move away from politics of insults, threats, and tribal posturing. Kenyans deserve better,” he said.
