Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya says unknown gunmen, claiming to be DCI officers, have attacked his convoy, shot at him before taking him into custody.
In a series of tweets posted on his official X account at around 1 pm, the MP asserted that the masked men, about 15 in number, who were heavily armed with AK-47 rifles, intercepted his convoy along the highway after his Isiolo tour.
They allegedly opened fire, deflating the tyres of his vehicle before shortly disarming his security team.
“I have just been attacked by unknown individuals claiming to be DCI officers. These people, heavily armed and moving with force, ambushed my convoy, disarmed my security team—confiscating their firearms—and pursued my vehicle,” stated Salasya.
“Multiple unidentified vehicles intercepted and opened fire on our convoy. The tires of the car carrying Salasya were shot, and the vehicle was immobilised. His bodyguards have been disarmed, and Salasya has been taken by force.”
According to the MP, the said vehicles had been trailing him and managed to block his motorcade, before daringly using his own cars to trap him.
“These are the vehicles that drove ahead of my convoy — my security and sound car were trailing behind. My vehicle, the one in front, was cornered. The attackers, claiming to be DCI, hijacked the cars ahead and used them to trap me,” he explained.
The MP now says his life is in danger, since he has been moved to an undisclosed area.
“One of my security personnel managed to escape and helped me flee into a nearby bush for safety. They shot at my vehicle, aiming directly at me. Shortly after, they emerged with at least 15 AK-47 rifles and confronted me with a chilling message—one I cannot disclose at this time for security reasons,” Salasya claimed.
“I am currently being taken to an unknown location, and I urge all relevant authorities and the public to take note of what is happening.”
