Prolific Talanta FC striker Emmanuel Osoro has said the golden boot award is no longer a lofty ambition after he moved clear in the FKF Premier League top scorers chart with three matches left to play.
Osoro’s late-season fine form has not only put him jointly at the summit of the scoring charts but has also hugely contributed to Talanta’s upturn in form, which has seen the side move out of relegation zone.
The Jackline Juma-coached side are placed 13th in the league standings on 35 points, seven clear from the danger area.
The on-form striker plundered a brace to silence title-chasing Tusker FC with 2-0 defeat on Wednesday, lifting his season’s haul to 16 and placing him as the league’s joint top scorer alongside Kakamega Homeboyz’s Moses Shumah who scored in their 2-1 win against Kenya Police.
The two leapfrogged Ryan Ogam’s 15 goals tally but the Tusker’s talisman charge was slowed by injuries that has also seen the Brewers struggle for goals.
Osoro has pounced on the opportunity, sidestepping him following a return to form in recent weeks.
He has scored four goals in his last four games, including the brace against Tusker, and also netted in wins against Gor Mahia and KCB.
In an interview with Citizen Digital, Osoro believes he has what it takes to finish top of the pile.
“I feel good; I’m in the best shape of the season,” Osoro said. “The team is creating chances, and I’m doing my job as a striker finishing them.
“I believe I can win the Golden Boot with the help of my teammates.” He stated.
Osoro was quick to state that despite his dreams of winning the award, his main goal is to help his team have a better end of the season by trying to win their last three fixtures.
“My team’s ambitions, of course, come before individual awards. My main goal is to help the team win their remaining games. If the team plays well and creates more goal-scoring chances, then the Golden Boot will come,” he added.
