Five members of the same family in Metembe village, Masimba Ward in Kisii County were attacked and killed by angry villagers last night.

The mob suspected the family of being involved in the murder of a middle-aged man who was found dead a month ago.

Among the victims were the father and mother of the family. Two other family members managed to escape the attack.

In addition to the killings, the enraged villagers also torched and destroyed six houses belonging to the suspected family.

The bodies of the five victims have been taken to the mortuary at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital. Meanwhile, investigations into the incident are underway.

South Masaba Deputy Commissioner Jane Manene confirmed the incident and stated that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a formal probe into the matter.
