At least four people drowned in separate incidents that were reported to police on Monday.

The victims included a six-year-old boy, police said.

The first incident was reported in Athi River, where one Robert Kilonzo, 40, drowned in a well in his compound in an accident.

Police said the deceased was using a fixed pulley to remove mud from the well when he slid into the same and drowned in the Monday evening incident.

Police, with the help of members of the public, managed to retrieve the lifeless body from the well hours later.

The body with no physical injuries was moved to the Kangundo Level Four Hospital morgue, awaiting autopsy.

In Sagana, Kirinyaga County, the body of a man was found floating in River Sagana after suspected drowning.

Police said the body was decomposed at the time it was discovered, and it is believed it was swept to the scene.

It had been blocked by a tree at a riverbank when it was discovered on Monday afternoon.

Police said the deceased was a man, and they are yet to identify him.

The body was taken to the Kerugoya Referral Hospital mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

In Makuyu, Muranga County, a middle-aged man drowned in a dam in an accident.

The man was identified as Albert Mwanzia and is said to have been fetching water from the dam when he slid and drowned therein.

Local divers managed to retrieve the body as police arrived at the scene and moved it to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Elsewhere in Mbeere, Embu County, police said a six-year-old boy drowned in a seasonal river in an incident.

The boy was a pre-primary pupil at Bright Young Star Academy and drowned in the Gatwanyanga area, police said.

Police officers visited the scene and found the body of the deceased, which had been retrieved from the water by members of the public.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending investigations and autopsy.

Police are urging caution, given that most rivers are swollen with water due to heavy rains being experienced in parts of the country.
