Women governors under attack, says Wavinya

Machakos Governor, Wavinya Ndeti now says there is a wave of political attacks sweeping across the country targeting women governors.

Addressing a congregation during a Sunday worship service at The Victory Church Kyamuthinza in Kalama Sub-County, Wavinya urged the church to pray and stand with women governors, whom she said were facing unwarranted smear campaigns from numerous detractors.

“There is a demon that has emerged in this country that is now targeting women governors. Many women governors are now endangered. (Susan) Kihika (Nakuru)is being attacked, (Gladys) Wanga (Homa Bay) is also being fought, and they are also fighting me here in Machakos,” she said.

Wavinya’s remarks come barely two months after Meru governor, Kawira Mwangaza was impeached after a vicious cycle of conflict with Members of the County Assembly.

In Machakos, a political storm has shaken up the County Assembly where about 33 MCAs have signed up to impeach Speaker Anne Kiusya, through a notice of Motion which has been filed with the clerk of the County Assembly.

However, Wavinya has advised the Speaker to engage the MCAs for a roundtable dialogue to unlock the impasse.

“I even tried reaching out to her (Ms Kiusya) but she declined to answer my calls. I urge her to sit down with the MCAs and talk out the issues in order to find a solution,” she said.
