Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said that he did his best to keep the country safe in the two years that he served as Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary.
Speaking in Ng’arachi, Laikipia county, on Tuesday, Kindiki insisted that he can account for the days he headed the ministry and what he did each day to make the country secure.
“I did my best as a Cabinet Secretary of Interior, and I can account for the 689 days as CS. I can account for what I did each day to make Kenya safe from Laikipia, Lamu, Garissa, Mandera and everywhere,” he said.
The Deputy President noted that when President William Ruto came into office in 2022, insecurity was high in Laikipia.
He noted that that would, however, become a thing of the past as the state moved in with interventions to ensure the country was safe.
He added that these interventions are the reason Ruto is in Laikipia to open a school, as schools were previously disrupted by banditry.
“Insecurity was high in Laikipia County when the President took over in 2022, but the government beefed up security, deployed armoured personnel Carriers and Mines Resistance Protected Vehicles, and it is now safer. We are now celebrating the reopening of schools that were initially battered by banditry.”
Kindiki noted that he was happy, as Deputy President, to return to a peaceful Laikipia county.
He also promised to return many times for development visits.
“After this visit, I will be there many times for development. I am happy today to be back to a peaceful Laikipia and a peaceful North Rift,” the DP said.
President William Ruto and his deputy have begun a weeklong visit of the larger Mt Kenya region with a tour of Laikipia County.
In Laikipia, the President reopened Ng’arachi Primary School and eight other schools in the Laikipia West Constituency that had been vandalised by bandits and other armed criminals.
The President also flagged off the last mile connectivity programme in Laikipia county worth Sh720 million that will connect 4,043 new households and other public amenities among them schools and health facilities.
