Pope Francis experienced two acute respiratory crises on Monday, a medical setback that, while serious, was reportedly less dangerous than the bronchospasm he suffered on Friday. According to a Vatican statement, the crises were caused by a significant accumulation of endobronchial mucus, which led to bronchospasm. Pope Francis’ latest health report In response to this condition, doctors performed two bronchoscopies to remove the excessive mucus buildup, after which non-invasive mechanical ventilation was resumed in the afternoon.  Despite these challenges, the Vatican reassured that the Holy Father remained “vigilant, oriented, and collaborative.” However, his prognosis remains guarded as he continues to receive treatment at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. “Today, the Holy Father suffered two episodes of acute respiratory insufficiency, caused by a significant accumulation of endobronchial mucus and consequent bronchospasm.

Two bronchoscopies were therefore performed, with the need to remove large secretions. In the afternoon, non-invasive mechanical ventilation was resumed. The Holy Father remained alert, oriented and cooperative at all times. The prognosis remains guarded,” read the statement.  Pope Francis remains in hospital as he suffers 2 new breathing crises. For how long has Pope Francis been hospitalised? Pope, 88, was admitted to the hospital on February 14 after a prolonged bout of bronchitis worsened. His medical team diagnosed a complex viral, bacterial, and fungal respiratory tract infection, which later developed into pneumonia affecting both lungs. On Sunday, the Pope reportedly managed an entire day without the aid of the non-invasive mechanical ventilation mask that had been supporting his breathing after Friday’s severe episode, according to Vatican News. Despite his health struggles, Pope Francis remains grateful for the support he has received. In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, he expressed his appreciation: “I would like to thank you for your prayers, which rise up to the Lord from the hearts of so many faithful from many parts of the world.

I feel all your affection and closeness and, at this particular time, I feel as if I am ‘carried’ and supported by all God’s people.” READ ALSO Pope Francis taken off ventilator as his condition stabilises, Vatican says Pope Francis remains engaged amid illness Even while battling health issues, Pope Francis has continued to engage with global affairs. On March 2, he returned to X to reaffirm his concern for international conflicts, offering prayers for Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Myanmar, Sudan, and Kivu. His messages reflect his commitment to peace and solidarity despite his ongoing medical condition. Medical professionals continue to monitor Pope Francis closely as he undergoes treatment.

The Vatican has assured the public that updates will be provided as his condition progresses. Meanwhile, the global Catholic community remains in prayer for his swift recovery. Reports of Pope Francis’ funeral rehearsals Earlier reports suggested that the Vatican had begun rehearsing funeral procedures for Pope Francis amid growing concerns over his health. According to the Daily Mail, officials within the Holy See have started preparations as the Pontiff remains hospitalised at Gemelli Hospital in Rome.
