Detectives are closing in on key suspects in the mysterious murder of British national Campbell Scott, whose remains were discovered in a forest in Makueni. Campbell Scott was in Kenya to attend a conference and had just checked into the JW Marriott hotel.Detectives investigating the brutal killing of Scott have reportedly a crucial breakthrough, tracing a mobile phone belonging to the last person seen with him to Voi, Taita Taveta county. NTV reports that the suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was last captured on security footage leaving a Nairobi hotel with Scott before the two boarded a taxi. The taxi driver, who was arrested after Scott’s disappearance, revealed that he dropped them off in Pipeline, more than 330 kilometres from where the suspect’s phone signal was last detected. According to the police, the suspect’s phone was last active in Voi before it was switched off, raising fears that he may have fled the area.
The detectives are combing the region for clues, hoping to apprehend the individual before he disappears entirely. Investigators believe the mystery man could provide crucial information regarding Scott’s final moments before his disappearance and eventual death. Security footage showed Scott leaving a high-end hotel with a man dressed in a white t-shirt and blue jeans. The two were later dropped off in Pipeline, but Scott was never seen alive again. A desperate search for the British executive ended in tragedy when a herdsman stumbled upon his partly decomposed body in Mukuyuni, Makueni County, on February 24. Authorities have since questioned staff at Havana Bar and Restaurant, where Scott was last seen, and JW Marriott, the hotel where he was staying. A waiter from Havana has also been placed in custody to assist with investigations.
How did Scott die As reported earlier, chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor conducted an autopsy on Scott’s remains on Thursday, February 27. Oduor stated that the examination revealed that while the body had physical injuries, they were not severe enough to cause death. He explained that further toxicology tests were underway to determine if there was foul play involving poisoning or other substances contributed to his demise. The Briton’s remains have been moved to a Nairobi funeral home as arrangements are made for repatriation to the UK for burial.
