Source: Youtube The programme’s host, Mehdi Hassan, took on Ichung’wah on several issues, including the extrajudicial acts against deemed government dissidents who are either killed or abducted. The journalist instanced Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi’s dossier, in which he detailed how his son, Leslie, was abducted at the height of the June 2024 protests. Did CS Muturi lie about his son’s abduction? Muturi had indicated that his son’s forcible disappearance was sanctioned by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) director general Noordin Haji, who President William Ruto allegedly instructed to release him in a phone call.

Rubbishing Muturi’s account, Ichung’wah explained that the CS has personal issues with the president. According to the MP, who is also the leader of the majority side in the National Assembly, Muturi’s accusations against the state are pure malice against the government owing to a ‘beef’ with the president. He added that the CS had embarked on a warpath with the government he serves under, possibly on knowing that he could be ejected from the Cabinet soon. “I heard what Justin Muturi said, it is an allegation…He is a politician, has a beef with his boss, in the government he serves, and there are reasons why he was removed as Attorney General at the time of the demonstrations. He He probably could be on his way out. It is he who made those allegations, and it is a matter under active investigation,” Ichung’wah said. How Al Jazeera put Kimani Ichungwa to task Ichung’wah had difficulty defending the government against the accusations that have since caught the attention of the world. The Al Jazeera host spotlighted the wrongs in the Kenya Kwanza regime, which informed the insurgency in Kenya in 2024.

Ichung’wah, who seemed to lose his cool in the course of the interview, argued that the accusations against the state were out of misinformation and misplaced rage against the government. He added that the government was implementing its manifesto page by page, seeking to suggest that the regime needed more time to deliver on its campaign promises. The politician further defended the president on claims that he had become unpopular among a majority of Kenyans. According to Ichung’wah, Kenyans’ disdain toward Ruto and his regime does not bear any substance but hate and emotional blackmail. “Kenyans are very participatory and active. If you ask them if I am corrupt, they will all storm your pages and perceive me as corrupt, and they will not give a single evidence or scandal, same for President William Ruto,” Ichung’wah said.
