President William Ruto was on a four-day development tour in Kenya’s North Eastern region, visiting the counties of Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo. President William Ruto attempted to push through the heckling by continuing his speech, but without success. On his final day, Friday, February 7, Ruto faced a hostile crowd during his visit to Isiolo County. Was William Ruto heckled in Isiolo? The head of state and his allies struggled to convey their message as angry residents at his public rally chanted anti-Ruto slogans. Ruto attempted to speak over the shouts, saying foreign nationals had been smuggling illegal drugs and selling them in the county. This intensified the heckling as residents shouted “uongo,” meaning “lies,” after each statement from the head of state.
“Those people selling drugs, we are going to ensure that they have been deported back to their countries,” Ruto said. Ruto, attempting to calm the crowd, alleged that drug dealers had sent youths to disrupt his rally. In an angry tone, he said the heckling youths could not threaten the government. “You can not threaten the government. Listen to me well nobody will come from a foreign land and say that drugs are going to be sold in this town. Drugs will be sold in Isiolo. Let them try selling, they’ll see,” Ruto angrily said.
