A family in Kirinyaga county is looking for their 14-month-old baby who disappeared mysteriously on January 22, 2025. Kirinyaga family appeals for help to reunite with 14-month-old baby. How did baby Maureen disappear? Mary Njoki the mother of the infant said she left her child under the care of her 19-year-old niece while she got a shave. However, the two went missing and have yet to be found. Hilda Muthoni, the niece, is the main suspect. I handed over my baby to Muthoni when I went inside the barber shop for a shave. When I came back outside, she was nowhere to be seen. I do not know where they went,” she said in a report by Citizen TV.
A relative, Lawrence Kariuki stated that the family is yet to understand what transpired leading to the mysterious disappearance of baby Maureen and her cousin. “The child is called Maureen Karioko, she disappeared mysteriously and we cannot explain what happened,” he said. The suspect’s mum Alice Murimi said she sent her daughter for groceries when her aunt asked her to babysit for a few minutes only for her and the child to disappear without a trace. “She told her to babysit as she was getting shaved. Now we do not know where Hilda went with the child,” she stated. The family has asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to probe the matter and return the infant to his mum.
