Embu: Family Seeks Justice after Form 2 Student Dies Following Alleged School Fight

A family in Runyenjes is mourning the tragic death of their 15-year-old son, a Form Two student at St. Francis Kanja Secondary School.  Shelton Caleb succumbed to injuries sustained in a fight with a schoolmate earlier in the week. What led to Shelton Caleb’s death? According to the family spokesperson who spoke to TUKO.co.ke, Shelton was injured in the arm during an alleged altercation with another student. Following the incident, he was taken to a local hospital for treatment on Tuesday night, January 21. The next day, the family was called to pick him up. Tragically, Shelton’s condition worsened, and he was transferred to Radiant Hospital in Nairobi, where he passed away while awaiting surgery for his injured arm. “His parents received the heartbreaking news of his death at the hospital.

We are now trying to understand the exact cause of his passing,” the family spokesperson said. Efforts by the family to meet with the school administration for clarity on the incident have been met with resistance. Despite an earlier agreement between Shelton’s mother, Leah Kiema, and the school principal to discuss the matter, the family found themselves locked out of the school. “We arrived at the school gate only to find it locked. The guards informed us we couldn’t enter. Attempts to call the principal were futile as their phone was unreachable,” the spokesperson lamented.

The family has accused the school of withholding crucial information and expressed frustration at the lack of communication. Leah Kiema stated: “I sent the principal messages and called several times, but they have ignored us. We suspect there is something they are trying to hide.” Police launch investigations into Shelton’s death The Embu OCPD, Anthony Maina, confirmed that a report about Shelton’s death had been filed. He assured the family that investigations are ongoing. “The parents allege the child succumbed while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital. We are working to establish the facts surrounding the case,” Maina said.

As they await the results of a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death, Shelton’s family has called on authorities and well-wishers to help uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable. “We want justice for our son. The school must ensure that no other child suffers a similar fate, and there should be no cover-up,” the family stated. While grieving their loss, the family remains focused on seeking justice and ensuring that similar incidents are prevented in the future.
