John Ndegwa, better known as MC Bull, is an award-winning actor, master of ceremonies, content creator, and comedian. MC Bull was rejected 40 times before landing first role.  MC Bull’s journey His journey to the top was filled with determination and resilience. During his rise to fame, Bull gained over a million cumulative followers across his social media platforms and YouTube channel. . Born and raised in Meru, Maua, Bull attended Maua Primary School and later Narok Boys High School before pursuing a diploma in journalism and mass communication in Nairobi. This was against the family’s dream of him being a teacher since it was a family tradition.  MC Bull’s 40 auditions before his first role Bull’s acting career was not all that smooth.

He recollected how he had to attend over 40 auditions before he could finally land his first acting role. “I remember going for 40 auditions and being rejected before I landed my first role. I used to even skip classes to go for auditions, sometimes liaising with friends to register me for various auditions so that when I leave one, I go to another, ” he shared. In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Bull revealed that he got his breakthrough in Naswa, a prank show, before landing other roles in Inspekta Mwala, Varshita, Auntie Boss and Maria, just to name a few. MC Bull’s passion for content creation on social media In 2019, Bull finally entered content creation driven by a passion that he had since childhood. His first video was an eyewitness skit, which went viral and was loved by the fans.

However, gaining subscribers was challenging. “Even when the videos went viral, subscribers were still hard to come by. I remember staying at 300 for almost a year. I couldn’t stop doing content creation because that’s something I have been doing since childhood,” he said. He recalled how he was entertaining as a child and shared one hilarious moment in his childhood that showed how comic he was. “I remember one time, we stole some fruits from a man in the village, but he caught us and took us to the chief. The chief told us to make him laugh for him to let us go, and I made him laugh hysterically. He eventually let us go,” Bull quipped. Consistency and collaboration Bull emphasised the importance of consistency in content creation, noting that it is key to achieving results.

He explained that he has monetised his channel with effort and has also done brand deals. He added that he owns a branding and printing business. He also explained that he would be collaborating with other creators while also advising starting creators. “When you are starting out, I would advise you to first build your audience so that when you create something with someone with a bigger audience, you don’t get frustrated when you create it alone and do not get the same numbers,” he said. Bull admitted that sometimes, logistics factors make collaboration hard to accomplish. “Someone might be far, and it becomes harder to come together and create content. But I’m always open,” he said. MC Bull’s mini-series in the horizon Bull revealed that he plans to release a mini-series on his YouTube channel, inspired by the success of projects like Disco Matanga by Awinja.

“I advise creators to also try this model of creating mini-series because it gives your audience a continuous story for some time, and they will keep watching. This year, I will also release such a mini-series. It has already been scripted, and I will release it soon,” he said. Acting for passion, not money Though he is still passionate about creating content, Bull expressed readiness for a return to TV roles whenever that opportunity arises. “I do it for the passion rather than for money,” he said. Talking about his New Year resolutions, Bull said that he is spontaneous and does not like to really plan anything. “Sometimes people set out plans for themselves but you find that the year ends and you have not accomplished anything then you start becoming depressed. I do not make plans but I know what I am doing,” Bull explained.
