KCSE 2024 Results: Students Share Concerns as They Await Grades, Cite Use of Random Index Numbers

A section of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates have shared their concerns and anxiety following the delay of their results. Students shared their anxieties over the delay in KCSE 2024 results.  The 2024 candidates have been holding their breaths after the Ministry of Education announced that their results would be released in early January 2025, but it has been a week since then. In early January, Education Permanent Secretary Belio Kipsang announced that the results would be out in 10 days, which lapse this week. “This is the second year we are releasing the KCSE results at the beginning of the year. We decided to take time to ensure that all issues and everything is done to ensure smooth release of results,” Kipsang said.

KCSE 2024 candidates share their anxieties Many candidates and parents have already considered the results release delayed and have taken to various platforms to question the long wait. TUKO.co.ke spoke to a Nairobi Form Four leaver who admitted she is already anxious. She expected the results to be released just before January 1, 2025, or a few days later. “Oh, yes, this wait is insane. I can’t help but be anxious. I remember we used the random index numbers. The examiners may be taking their time to match the random index numbers to the real ones. All in all, I hope the wait is worth it as I expect to score a good grade,” she said. What are random index numbers? The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) introduced random index numbers a while back, which do not include the school code. The candidate’s last three digits of her index number are used with the random number.

However, the results will be released with the candidates’ real index number. TUKO.co.ke also spoke to another candidate, who admitted she is quite anxious. “I can’t explain why I have this anxiety, but I have hopes of passing,” she said. 2024 KCSE Students, and parents react Here are more comments from parents and students as shared online: Jacob Mwambetu said: “The results are already late and over-delayed.” Purity Kirui said: “Give us the results already to know our fate is overdelayed.” Euphrasiah Milimu said: “As long as my son is given the exact result, l have no worries about the delay.”
