In a tweet, Kuria claimed that the programmes he initiated in the ministry became moribund after he was moved out. According to him, the industrial parks he launched across the country to avail job opportunities for the youth are no longer functional.
He further noted that the manufacturing aspect of the country’s GDP has been at its lowest ever since he quit. “Industrial Parks Dead. Special Economic Zones Dead. Export Processing Zones Dead. Manufacturing down to 6% of GDP. Foreign Direct Investments lowest in 20 years. Exports as % of GDP 10% down from 28%. After trying the big shoes by Rebecca Miano and Salim Mvurya,” he said.
He expressed his optimism about the new nominee to the docket, former Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui, turning the ministry around for the better. “I hope Lee Kinyanjui will make a difference,” added Kuria. The former Nakuru governor is among the new entrants to the Cabinet. Inside Ruto’s Cabinet changes Others are one-time Health CS Mutahi Kagwe and former Kiambu governor William Kabogo.
Ruto handed Kagwe the Agriculture and Livestock Development Ministry., with Kabogo taking the Information, Communication and Digital Economy docket. Further, in the Cabinet changes, the president entrusted the Interior Ministry to Kipchumba Murkomen. Until his new portfolio, Murkomen presided over the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry.
Mvurya, previously the CS for Investments and Trade, was handed the Sports docket. The president reassigned now-former Agriculture and ICT CSs to ambassadorial roles. Margaret Nyambura, the ICT CS, was appointed the High Commissioner for Kenya in Ghana, while Andrew Karanja, who was at the helm of the Agriculture Ministry, was named Kenya’s ambassador to Brazil.
