A Meru gospel artiste has painfully narrated her musical career journey and how it has been affected by meeting the wrong people. Meru gospel artiste Florence Kaura recounts being swindled money by producers. Florence Kaura, who shared that she started singing at a young age, was almost in tears as she recounted her challenges.
The mother of two said she suffered at the hands of Kenyan producers, many of whom were Christians. Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, she vividly recalled meeting a young man in the church who promised to help her with her first album. Kaura finds out church member’s trip to South Africa “He was from the same church I attended and worked in the media department.
He promised to help me record, mix, and produce. We did record some of my music, but he could not mix. He kept telling me he would do so in the future, but he never kept his word. I remember one time he asked me to carry the master data. I was sceptical because he already had everything.
When I gave it to him, that was the last time I saw him. I did not know he was supposed to travel to South Africa soon. I only knew it after a month through his brother,” she said. The encounter was followed by similar experiences that saw her lose lots of money to Kenyan producers. They always overpromised but never delivered, which drained Kaura financially and mentally.
Kaura threatened by archbishop after being his nephew arrested “I would book studios and make down payments for the recordings, but they all kept disappointing me. I remember suing one producer after stalling my project and receiving a call from his uncle. He was an archbishop, and he threatened me for putting his nephew behind bars. I found out the producer’s father was also a bishop.
I was stunned because how could such people, professing to be Christians, threaten me and defend their kin over wrongdoing? It did not sit well with me,” she said. The recording artiste, however, shared one encounter with a Rwandan producer who helped her produce an album. She praised his good work, saying she sold over 800 audio copies of her album, a significant milestone in her career.
