Simon Kabu, Director Trevor, Mungai Eve Saga Explained

Content creator Director Trevor has publicly criticised his ex-girlfriend, Mungai Eve, over her recent interview with Bonfire Adventures CEO Simon Kabu.

The interview, conducted during the Bonfire Adventures end-of-year party, focused on the ongoing marital drama between Simon Kabu and his wife, Sarah.

Trevor expressed his displeasure, calling the interview unprofessional, disrespectful, and embarrassing.

Speaking in an interview with Ankali Ray, Trevor defended Simon Kabu, stating that the interview demeaned an elder who deserved respect.

“Sometimes our elders need respect. Our elders know what they are doing; it’s not nice to talk to them in a way that demeans them,” Trevor remarked.

Trevor denied that his criticism was motivated by personal grudges, explaining that as a content creator in a similar field, he felt compelled to comment on the matter.

“Even if it was someone else, I would speak out. This is part of what I do. I must talk because there are people who look up to you. The people we interview are role models, and demeaning them is not right,” he explained.

He also called on Mungai Eve to maintain professionalism in her work, even when she has a personal connection with her interviewees.

“Even if you know each other to a certain level, fans don’t know that. You should be professional on camera,” he added.

Trevor did not shy away from addressing Eve’s overall presentation as a journalist. He compared her to respected journalists like Lulu Hassan and advised her to go back to school to refine her craft.

“If you say you’re a journalist, then look at the way you dress on social media. Look at your fellow journalists like Lulu Hassan and assess yourself. Does she wear like that? Let’s not just use the name ‘journalist.’ Go finish school, have ethics, and know your purpose,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of prioritising journalistic integrity over social media trends.

Controversy

The interview, which was meant to shed light on the issues between Simon and Sarah, instead sparked online backlash.

During the conversation, Eve pressed Simon on various sensitive topics, including gender-based violence (GBV) allegations, a CCTV incident involving Sarah and another woman, and the dynamics of their business partnership.

Simon clarified that Bonfire Adventures was a joint effort, not solely his wife’s creation. “We met in 2007. I was a salesperson when we met. Bonfire Adventures has been operating for the last 15 years. We founded the company together,” he explained.

When asked about the GBV allegations, Simon chose to remain silent, saying, “I do not want to say anything about it. It is a matter that is in court, and I don’t want to be misquoted.”

Reactions

The interview received mixed reactions from viewers, with many criticising Eve’s questioning style.

Some felt she was too harsh, while others accused her of projecting personal experiences onto Sarah’s situation.

Trevor added his voice to the criticism, alleging that the interview was “unprofessional, embarrassing, and lacking objectivity,” and urged Mungai Eve to apologise to Simon and redo the interview.
