No end in sight as Moi University lecturers, staff vow to continue with strike

 

The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) Moi University chapter in a virtual meeting on Sunday night resolved to continue with their strike as the university remains closed.

Chapter Secretary General Busolo Wekesa said the resolutions of the meeting was that, the local strike continues unabated and rallies to be held simultaneously at Main Campus and PDN in Eldoret.

University staff are on strike over non-implementation of the RTWF in the matter of the 2021/2025 CBA. All the union members have been asked to await further instructions from the Union leadership and contact any one of the leaders for urgent matters arising.

On Friday, the parliamentary committee on education had directed the university’s management and the unions to have negotiations so as to resume work today as the students report.

In a memo on Thursday, Vice Chancellor Isaac Kosgey announced resumption of learning activities despite the ongoing lecturers’ strike.

“This is to report the opening of the university with immediate effect. Students are to report back for their studies, and classes will resume on Monday, November 11, 2024,” said Kosgey.
