A Meru intersex dumped by his wife after his public confession has opened up about his workplace. Meru intersex Wendy Mwendwa shares his challenges in the workplace. Who is an intersex? According to the Cleveland Clinic, intersex individuals have reproductive or sexual anatomy that does not fit into the male or female sex classification.
Wendy Mwendwa painfully shared the challenges he undergoes at his place of work because of his condition. Mwendwa noted he is identified as a madam or she in his workplace and hence has to conform to the character of a female. Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Mwendwa shared that he wears bras while at work, which is how he is identified. “I cannot remove them. The employment opportunity available at my workplace before I got it was the role of a secretary, and they ended a female.
There was no way I could have gotten that job if I did not look feminine. I had to wear bras because of my condition and hope I would get that job, which I eventually did,” he said. How hard is it for intersex to get jobs? The young man noted it was difficult for intersex people to get employment, whether white or blue-collar jobs.
He admitted to being turned down for job offers because his body structure did not suit the kind of profile the various companies sought. “There are places where they look at your body structure, determining whether you will get the job. Many people do not understand us, and this works to our disadvantage.
We often have to try so much to get what we need,” he noted. Mwendwa’s struggle to handle two roles Mwendwa added that it was challenging to handle two roles: being a madam at work and a husband at home. It disturbed him mentally, but he disclosed there was little he could do about it because he had to survive. “It is not easy, but what do I do? I have to find a way to live with how I am,” he stated.
