The conductor, popularly known as Mwas, went viral for his good looks, professionalism and tidiness. He lost his life in the hospital after being thrown out of a moving matatu.A close friend said that Mwas was thrown out of the vehicle after a collision, and his leg was amputated.
He was admitted to the Kenyatta National Hospital but later died while undergoing dialysis due to organ failure. The loving dad and husband was buried on Wednesday, October 23 in Kiambu county. The memorial service was held at the St. Anne’s Catholic Church grounds in Uthiru before his burial. A video shared online showed mourners viewing the body, with many breaking down in sorrow. One woman had to be held by a team of nurses as she was overwhelmed by emotions. His colleagues, wearing matching t-shirts, were present to pay their last respects. Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Zablon Mwangi, a conductor along the Kasarani route who attended the burial paid homage to Mwas, while lauding transport industry players for uniting.
“Mwas might be gone, but he lives on in our minds forever. He was an outstanding human being, and I was not surprised by the huge turnout from the matatu industry fraternity,” Zablon said. Kenyans paid tribute to Mwas, writing: Mukanga Gathoni: “Painful losing a young person.” Esther Wanjiru: “Rest easy makanga bae.” Makarena Lina: “Rest easy handsome boy.” Irene Njeri: “May he rest easy.” Trizah Maina: “Rest in peace.”
