Wiper Senator pledges to contest Gachagua’s impeachment in court

Makueni County Senator Dan Maanzo

Makueni County Senator Dan Maanzo has indicated that he will move to court to invalidate the planned removal of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from office through impeachment.

The Senator insists there are no sufficient and justifiable reasons given for Gachagua’s ouster from the position he currently holds and that the scheduled process of his expulsion should be halted.

“The attempt to remove Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President is unconstitutional and should be challenged in the courts. There are no grounds for his removal as stipulated in the Constitution,” said the Senator.

Maanzo, who is allied with Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, is also confident that those behind the motion to impeach Gachagua will not muster the requisite numbers to push through their agenda.

“As MPs prepare for the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua, I am certain and 100 percent sure there are no grounds, and I am very sure they will not achieve the two-thirds majority in both Houses, the National Assembly and the Senate. It is a futile effort,” he said.

He accused MPs of engaging in matters that do not concern ordinary citizens. Instead, he wants lawmakers to focus on legislation regarding issues considered pertinent by Kenyans, rather than concentrating their energies on frustrating the Deputy President.

“Instead of Members of Parliament working for Kenyans by making laws that follow the Constitution, they have chosen to engage in non-issues and disappoint Kenyans. MPs are completely compromised,” he charged.
