Nyamira County Women Rep. Jerusha Momanyi has issued footballs to various local youth teams from Kitutu Masaba Constituency to support and grow their passion for sports.
The legislator observed that most youth, when not properly engaged, are easily lured to join criminal gangs or get hooked on drugs and substance abuse instead of nurturing their talents in various areas like sports, music, art, and innovations of their interest.
“I will give total support to my county’s local sporting clubs for various sporting events and categories because sports are ranked among the most lucrative ventures globally for those who take it seriously. I therefore want to support my local teams so that they can also be selected to participate in regional, national, and international sports tournaments because they have full potential,” she pledged.
She pointed out that she is more than ready to support youth who want to nurture their talents in sports instead of idling at home and decrying joblessness when there are millions of untapped opportunities they can grab to earn handsomely.
“Youth, you are very energetic, vibrant, and in good health, and you should therefore have no excuse for not engaging in sports, art, music, or innovations of your interest. Keep practicing locally to perfect your skills and prowess so that you can confidently compete with others, and who knows, you could be the one to bring the medals and make our county and country proud,” Jerusha said.
“I’m requesting school managers to make the school play grounds available during holidays so that our youths can utilise them for practice to hone their skills to compete professionally and confidently by the time the tournaments commence.”
She hinted that, other than supporting the sporting activities, she is issuing tents to women groups so they can use them to generate income by hiring them out to clients hosting social functions.
Momanyi also issued cheques of Sh141,000 each to two groups of widows engaging in table banking and lending out loans to people so they can generate more money from interest collected courtesy of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
The legislator, through the NGAAF, also engages in the issuing of sanitary towels to schoolgirls in primary school to ensure they do not miss school during their menstrual cycles and the installation of water collection tanks in schools to harvest rainwater and curb the water shortage challenge.
