Juja South Estate residents were thrown into mourning after a 52-year-old food vendor was mauled to death by hyenas.   Nancy Njoki was returning to her small kiosk from the market where she had gone to buy kale, cabbages, and other supplies for her daily operations when the wild animals fatally attacked her.  “It is not the first time we have been threatened by hyenas and other animals here. She had just walked from the market with some items to her Kibanda to prepare lunch for the casual workers. Now I am not even sure where they will eat today. It is very sad,” a local boda rider who witnessed the horrific scene told Citizen Digital. Her belongings were discovered a few meters from the attack site, where hyenas allegedly devoured her head, stomach, and waist, leading her family to commit to seeking legal justice.

KWS kicks off ‘Operation Ondoa Fisi Juja’ In response, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and other stakeholders launched the second phase of ‘Operation Ondoa Fisi Juja’ in the sub-county on the night of Wednesday, August 7. “Responding swiftly, Kenya Wildlife Service dispatched the Deputy Director of Community Relations and Outreach Division, Mr Abdi Doti, accompanied by Senior Principal Veterinary Officer Dr Bernard Rono and Oldonyo Sabuk National Park team to attend the case and offered support,” KWS said in a statement as they urged for calmness.
