Kenyatta University was struck by a devastating blow as a fierce fire engulfed the Old Moi Library on the night of Friday, May 5, 2024. Kenyatta University’s Old Moi Library was razed by fire on the night of May 5, 2024.  KU’s old library goes up in flames The inferno started under mysterious circumstances and wreaked havoc on university property, leaving behind a scene of destruction and despair. According to videos posted on social media platforms, the incident unfolded with alarming speed and intensity as flames leapt skyward, casting an eerie glow that could be seen from afar. The night sky was painted orange and red as the fire raged on, defying initial attempts to contain it. Students, bystanders, and emergency responders alike were met with a daunting sight as they converged on the scene. Was the fire contained? The crackling of flames echoed through the air, illuminating the surroundings with an unsettling brightness. Despite the valiant efforts of firefighters who battled tirelessly to control the blaze, the fire’s ferocity seemed relentless, threatening to consume everything in its path. Amidst the chaos, there was a collective sigh of relief as firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to a nearby restaurant and gas station. Once a hub of knowledge and learning, the Old Moi Library now lay in ruins, its precious contents reduced to ashes.  Kenyatta University bus accident A previous report reported that no learning activity would be held at Kenyatta University for three days, beginning Wednesday, March 20. The institution suspended routine activities in honour of students who perished in a road accident in Taita Taveta county. Deputy vice-chancellor Waceke Wanjohi said the focus will be on paying homage to the deceased. Confirming the tragic news, the varsity’s vice chancellor, Professor Paul Wainaina, commiserated with the families that lost their loved ones in the road crash.
