In a show of respect and solidarity, the United Kingdom mission in Kenya has lowered its flags to half-mast to honor the late General Francis Ogolla.

Ogolla, a highly respected figure in Kenya's military and diplomatic circles perished Thursday alongside other military officers in a chopper crash in Marakwet East.

“We are flying the UK flag at half mast in honor of the late CDF Ogolla. May his memory be a blessing,” UK ambassador to Kenya Neil Wigan said.

This gesture underscores the strong ties and mutual respect between the UK and Kenya in matters of defense and security cooperation.

In a televised address to the nation Thursday evening, President William Ruto declared a three-day national mourning in honor of the fallen soldiers.

During the period, Ruto ordered that the Kenyan flag, that of KDF and the East Africa Community (EAC) will fly at half mast across the country including Kenyan missions abroad.

"In honor of the life and the distinguished military career of the fallen General, who lost his life not just while in office but in active military duty, the nation will observe a period of three days of mourning commencing April, 2024," the President said.
