Larry Madowo Astonished after Paying KSh 1200 for Ugali, Omena Meal: "Je Huu Ni Ungwana?"

CNN journalist Larry Madowo could not believe his bill after eating a hearty meal of omena and ugali in a restaurant. The meal Larry Madowo paid for (l), the CNN news anchor (r).  Larry Madowo pays KSh 1, 200 for omena The meal entailed a bowl of well-made omena in soup served in a plain bowl, a piece of ugali that some people called patco (small white sweets) owing to its supposedly small size, and some garnishing of vegetables on the side. Madowo took to social media, wondering if omena was now for the rich and had acquired a new status.  "This meal cost KSh 1,200. When did omena get gentrified?" he posed. Most of his followers opined that the meal cost too much, enough for about three tins of omena in the market. Others were, however, quick to point out that it depends on the restaurant he had visited, as the ambience and setting of a restaurant also determine its prices. Kenyans react to Larry Madowo's post: Arap Masai: "Larry Madowo has used the word to ironically critique the high cost that comes with "gentrification" of the meal." Jakkuzi: "They're just enlighted finally after having eyes open for all that long plus ni wewe Larry, Io ni cheap ingekuwa ni mimi nakuuzia wacha tu."  Jim Bonnie: "I fully believe that omena should be expensive. This delicacy has been vilified for year and I'm glad it's receiving the respect it deserves." Aggrey Aluso: "Depends on where you are eating it! Stanley Hotel or kibandaski." Sagini Ryans: "Bro hiyo doo yote? Wacha ninunue tins tatu huku nijikaangie. Sikieni umaskini ikiongea sasa.
