Kisii: Police Intercept Matatu Ferrying 14 Sacks Of Bhang, Driver Escapes

Police in Kisii on Saturday morning nabbed 14 sacks of bhang being ferried to an unknown destination in a 14-seater matatu en route to Keroka.

Confirming the incident, Acting Kisii Central OCPD Kazungu Charo told Citizen Digital that the driver of the vehicle, a Toyota Hiace Reg. No. KCN 509Q, abandoned it after crashing into a ditch while attempting to evade police officers.

“We intercepted the vehicle which was being driven suspiciously. The officers gave chase and upon realizing this, the driver diverted it to a feeder road in Kegati where he eventually lost control, landing into a ditch,” he said.

“The vehicle contained had 14 sacks of a product suspected to be bhang. It was destined for either Nairobi, Bomet or Kericho.”

The vehicle’s driver fled the scene on foot and a manhunt is currently underway to locate him.

The matatu and confiscated bhang have been impounded at the Kisii Central Police Station.
