Saumu Mbuvi, daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, has taken to Instagram to shed light on the persistent attempts by strangers, particularly men, trying to woo her with money and extravagant gifts in exchange for a meeting.
In a revealing post, the mother of two shared screenshots of a conversation she had with one such individual who was making grand promises to capture her attention.
The mysterious man claimed:
“I have a factory in Nairobi and I have 700 personnel’s at Nairobi. I have houses at Westlands and near Mama Lucy. Also, I have two offices at Kayole and a factory near there.”
In another message, he asked, “Sunshine, can I send you flowers tomorrow?”
Saumu, however, made it clear that she does not entertain such conversations and used the opportunity to caution young girls about the risks of interacting with strangers on social media.
Saumu emphasized the dangers of responding to such solicitations, stating:
“Every day, I get such requests from strangers. I receive these kinds of messages from men trying to send gifts and money to me for me to meet them, but I am not moved by such useless things. I would like to advise my young sisters out there.”
Addressing her younger audience, Saumu urged caution, saying:
“To my young sisters, it’s not safe out there; people have hidden motives everywhere. Don’t go meeting strangers in the name of promises. Don’t rush for the fast life; your life is more precious than anything in this world.”
Saumu’s message emphasized the potential hazards linked with interactions on social media, urging young women to remain vigilant and prioritize their safety above tempting offers.
Detectives delving into the horrific murder of 20-year-old Rita Waeni Muendo suggest that she and the suspect allegedly connected through the social media platform Instagram.
This information was gleaned from the victim’s account, which investigators managed to access while probing the murder that occurred on January 13 in an apartment in Roysambu, Nairobi.
The investigators note that the two refrained from using voice calls and other platforms like WhatsApp in their communication, opting for the social media platform.
According to the detectives, this choice indicates that the initiator, presumed to be the man, had an unclear agenda.
The duration of their communication and how long they had been in touch remains unclear.
“It seems they conversed using the platform up to the day of the meeting. He gave her the directions to the apartment through the platform,” stated an investigator familiar with the inquiry.
At one point, the suspect informed the woman that he intended to travel abroad, providing a purported reason for the planned meeting.
Investigations are still ongoing.
