CS Wahome wants individuals occupying public land to vacate immediately

 

Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has fired a warning to individuals who are illegally sitting on public land, saying their days are numbered.

According to Wahome, anyone who has encroached into public land ought to vacate immediately.

Speaking during a visit to Kilifi County Lands Registry, Wahome disclosed that her Ministry will work closely with state agencies such as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in the recovery of grabbed public land.


The Cabinet Secretary, has in the meantime, committed to streamline the process of compensation for land and property owners affected by the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone in Mombasa following strict instructions by President William Ruto.

Wahome however stated that an operation to do away with impostors who expect to be compensated in the process is underway so that the correct list is implemented.


The CS, who was in the company of area County Commissioner Josephat Biwott, spoke of the need to deepen collaboration between national and county governments in resolving land disputes and settlement issues.

Wahome’s impromptu tour of land registries is aimed at assessing the working conditions and hindrances to effective service delivery.
