Traders in Gatundu apologise to former president Kenyatta as they celebrate his 62nd birthday
A section of traders at Gatundu South market on Thursday noon converged to celebrate former President Uhuru Kenyatta's 62nd birthday.
In a video seen by K24 Digital, the traders sang and danced with joy as they celebrated the former Head of State with a cake.
At the venue, the traders had plastered posters of the former president captioned with a sweet message of appreciation and good riddance.
"God bless you for all your efforts in leading our great county towards better days, may he continue blessing you with good health and prosperity to this and many more years to come," the posters read.
In their song, the traders who were jubilantly singing and chanting in the Kikuyu dialect also expressed their frustrations since Kenyatta left office.
"Kuma wathii nikwanyitanire," the traders sang in unison.
Loosely translated to:
"Since you left, life has become extremely difficult,"
They also expressed regret and apologised to Kenyatta alleging that they were hoodwinked during the 2022 General Election.
"Tulimkosea sababu tulienda na wave, lakini tunaomba msamaha, tunaomba akuje huku nyumbani tumsherehekee kama vile tumefanya leo. Akiwa kwa uongozi, alipatia watoto wetu kazi, na pia tulikuwa tunaweza kuwasomesha, sahii maisha imekuwa ngumu sana, na tuko na shida," one Nyambura Kimani, a trader said.
Kenyatta's 62nd birthday marks the second birthday since he left office.
Different leaders across the country have also joined hands in celebrating the retired president.
