How I bought my Sh80 million Karen land - Gachagua
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has detailed how he acquired his current Sh80 million home.
Gachagua said that he was saving his money in a Sacco and took a loan of Sh850,000.
"I am a beneficiary of saccos, I was a member of Magereza society. I saved money there and took a loan of Sh850,000. I bought a one-hectare plot in Karen where I am currently staying. Without the house, the land is Sh80 million. I will look for the CEO to continue saving for the construction of my retirement home," he said.
He encouraged Kenyans to utilise saccos in saving money for future use.
The DP spoke on Saturday during the celebration of Ushirika Day.
President William Ruto encouraged saving saying that the government is planning to support cooperatives to realise its goals.
Ruto said the government will support the sector through institutional reform measures.
This will be done through the harmonization of legislation governing various crops, with the aim of reducing the cost of production to boost production and competitiveness.
He said modernization of the Kenya Cooperative Creameries will enhance its efficiency and enable it to sustainably manage the milk market glut by converting excess milk into powder to stabilise prices.
"We are setting up aggregation and distribution centres for storage, value addition and marketing of agricultural products. The objective of this partnership is to reduce postharvest losses, eliminate predatory cartels and boost farmer incomes," Ruto said.
He added that there will be interventions in the dairy sector, including the waiver of duties on the ingredients of animal feed. BY THE STAR
